the good life

last night we met a friend of a friend who is here for the International Tango Festival. She invited us to a legit tango experience in a part of town we would have never encountered on our own. It was essentially a dance studio - large hall of couples doing the Tango. We watched for about 10 minutes, then they had a "demo" of tango by two of the best dancers there. I have to admit it was pretty mesmerizing - even Hugh thought so. Our new friend sat next to us and explained that each move made during the dance is led by the man, every slight twitch, kick, twist the woman makes is because he's opening up a space for her to do so. hmmm.....then they opened up the floor again to all dancers and we watched J. dance with several different partners. of course she's talented and beautiful so men were lining up for a twirl. There are tango schools everywhere in the city including one about half block from our apt so who knows. i begged hugh to twirl me around for a few minutes when we got home just to see what it felt like.

today our cleaning lady Patricia - currently our best spanish speaking friend came over to make us a few Argentine meals that we can keep in the fridge. she made a tube pasta dish with cubed steak, a chicken and rice dish and a breaded thinly sliced steak that we are supposed to panfry in olive oil and then melt some mozzarella on top. Yum! i could get used to this. lucky for us she is a great cook and its nice to have some home cooking. yesterday we ventured to the big supermarket CorreFour to find me a blowdryer, a coffee maker and various sundries. also discovered a dozen different types of mayo. mayo with olive oil - of course! i got hit on twice in the fresh seafood section by the ever present attractive mullet shorn argentine men. hugh kindly wandered off and watched smiling from a distance.

Mullets galore! Sounds like toooo much fun (or a return to the 1980's?)

It sounds as if you're having fun, learning a lot, and taking steps to get aclimated, so you'll be a pro by the time we pop in for a visit. :o)
