day 2

ok i thought i´d take my fancy mac to a wifi cafe this afternoon to google around and post some pix to my blog. so, i find a nice table for one. utta is at my feet in turkey pose and i proceed to take out my laptop when i notice two men at the table across from me look over in horror. i continue to set up my laptop on the table when one of them starts talking to me in spanish with a look of concern and astonishment at my obvious gaffaw. i could understand about 20 percent of what he said but the gist of it was - what the hell do you think you´re doing. men on scooters drive by this street all the time and steal computers like yours. you need to either put it away, move somewhere else or keep your eyes peeled. i could tell from their expressions they thought i was an idiot and probably deserved to have my expensive laptop swiped. hmmm. kinda put a damper on my little afternoon plans so i packed up and tried to pay for my agua con gas but the waitress wouldn´t take my 100 peso bill - no cambio. welcome to a whole new way of life and being out of my comfort zone....

so far what i love about it-

freshly made empanadas on every corner
everyone has a dog and loves utta - que lindo, nene or nena?
beautiful tree lined streets
living one block from the zoo and a huge park with running trails
they don´t sell peanut butter
women wear pants so tight you see everything
mullets are the cut of choice

what i don´t love but will get used to-

mosquitos in the parc
noisy at all hours
half understanding what people say
no wireless connection in the apartment
cold showers - well, it´s supposed to get fixed tomorrow but won´t hold my breath

the adventure continues manana

buenas noches ambi

espero tu proximo "blog".

ciao ciao

hola tonito!

wish i could respond in kind but likely will be a few more weeks at least before i have that kind of proficiency. at least i can understand what you wrote - i think (:

i feel like i'm on vacation - it definitely has not "hit" me that i live here now although i am getting used to a bit of a routine. having our dog here helps as she needs to do the same things every day and get lots of exercise. right now we are living in palermo on the corner of cervino y lafinur. just one block down from the zoo. it's quite perfectly located with the parcs nearby and many cute resto-bars nearby. we experienced Freddo last time we visited but haven't run into one yet in our new neighborhood. there is a place called Presicco that is similar - good gelato and free wifi.

today we had lunch with another expat from wisconsin in Belgrano. i like that neighborhood too so we may look around there a bit more at places to live next.

more later..

ciao amigo,
